What is Reiki? Reiki is Universal Life Force Energy.

The Reiki Practitioner taps into an unlimited source of Universal Life Force Energy and in a "hands-on fashion", shares this energy with the client. The practice of Reiki is the art and science of channeling this energy to promote spiritual, mental and physical well-being.

The knowledge of an unseen energy flowing through us and all living things has been part of the wisdom of many cultures for thousands of years. The existence of the Universal Life Force Energy has been documented by recent scientific experiments and medical doctors are considering the role it plays in the functioning of the immune system and the healing process. Reiki is not to be considered a substitute for appropriate medical or emotional treatment but it can be used in conjunction with these treatments.

Rei -- Spiritual Wisdom
Hawayo Takata, who introduced Reiki to the West in 1938, said the word Rei means "Universal". However, Takata also indicated that this interpretation is a very general one. The Kanji Ideograms have many levels of meaning. So while it is true that Rei can be interpreted as "Universal", meaning that it is present everywhere, this level of interpretation really does not add to our understanding of Reiki.

The esoteric meaning of the Japanese Kanji Character for Rei has given a much deeper understanding of the ideogram. The word Rei, as it is used in Reiki, is more accurately interpreted to mean supernatural knowledge or spiritual consciousness. This is the wisdom that comes from God or from the Higher Self. This is the God-Consciousness which is all-knowing. It understands each person completely and knows the cause of all problems, all difficulties and knows what to do to heal them.

Ki -- The Life Force
Ki means the same as Chi in Chinese, Prana in Sanskrit and Ti (or Ki) in Hawaiian. It has also been called Odic Force, Orgone and Bioplasma. It has been given many other names by the various cultures that have been and are aware of it.
Ki is life force. It is also called the Vital Life Force and the Universal Life Force. This is the non-physical energy that animates every living thing. As long as something is alive, it has life force circulating through it. When it dies, the life force departs. If your life force or energy is low, or if there is a restriction in its flow, you will be more vulnerable to illness. When the energy is high, and flowing freely, you are less likely to get sick. Life force plays a very important role in everything we do. It animates the body and is the primary energy of our emotions, our thoughts and our spiritual life. The Chinese place great importance on the life force or what they call Chi. They have studied it for thousands of years and have discovered there are many different kinds of Chi.

The unlimited abilities of Reiki allow it to be sent across distance, time, and space. In this way, distance healing treatments can occur, as well as treating dis-ease carried over from past lives or childhood. The Reiki energy is simply sent by myself (Reiki Master) to the point and level where the healing needs to occur - physical, emotional, mental or spiritual. It is not necessary that the client be aware of exactly what is causing the dis-ease, either in the present or the past. The Reiki practitioner or the Reiki energy, itself, will "know" where to go. Reiki energies can also be "sent" to meet you at an appointed time in the future.

During the appointed time, one will need to find a place to lie down or sit quietly without disturbances so they are better able to receive the healing energies. This takes approximately an hour. 1. I HIGHLY recommend this!!! Recently I was going through a VERY tough time and Kirsten offered to do long-distance Reiki on me. Within a few hours SOMETHING changed and I felt much much better. I can't explain it, but it felt like a space opened up that allowed enough room for me to get some perspective on my problems. From a purely subjective perspective it felt like compassion and love entered into the space she created. And that was beautiful.
